BHP has approved a total of US$250 million (BHP Billiton Brasil Ltda (BHP Billiton Brasil) share) in financial support for the Renova Foundation and Samarco Mineração S.A. (Samarco) until 31 December 2017.

After having suffered a fire in July 2016, a second fire was reported in the Dartford Tunnel in September last year. The fire in a passenger car was detected by the incident detection system, the Fogtec water mist system was activated directly thereafter.

Samarco Update concerning Tailings and Restart of Operations

Samarco Mineração S.A (Samarco), BHP Billiton Brasil LTDA (BHP Billiton Brasil) and Vale. S.A (Vale) agreed a non-binding term sheet outlining the general terms and conditions for the use of Vale’s Timbopeba pit by Samarco to deposit its tailings, should Samarco restart. Vale would transfer the Timbopeba pit to Samarco and, as compensation, Samarco would supply to Vale an amount of non-processed ore (Run-of-Mine – ROM) for a certain period.

New Potash Plant in Canada - Symbolic Commissioning Start of Legacy

Dr. Ralf Bethke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, and Norbert Steiner, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors and Dr. Ulrich Lamp, President and CEO of K+S Potash Canada, symbolically pressed the start button for the Commissioning Start of Legacy.


The commissioning of Legacy is underway. To particularly appreciate this exceptionally important step for the project, yesterday – during a visit to the site by the Supervisory Board and Board of Executive Directors – Dr. Ralf Bethke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, and Norbert Steiner, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, together with Dr. Ulrich Lamp, President and CEO of K+S Potash Canada, symbolically pressed the start button.

Alacer Gold comments on recent Events in Turkey
