Final double Breakthrough at the Emscher Sewer in Germany

 

With the breakthrough of the last two tunnel boring machines into the target pit in Oberhausen-Biefang on June 12, 2017 the tunnel and pipe jacking work for the Emscher sewer has been completed. Over a period of 25 years numerous Herrenknecht tunnelling machines and a wide range of additional equipment were successfully used in the Europe-wide unique environmental and sewage project of Emschergenossenschaft.

Breakthrough of Lovsuns Sewer Tunnel TBM in Istanbul - Huge Plan for Wastewater Treatment in Turkey till 2023

 

The Turkish construction company Eferay Yapi Ticaret A.S. together with the Canadian-Chinese Lovsuns Tunneling Canada Ltd. celebrated in Istanbul the breakthrough of the 3.91 m diameter single shield EPB-TBM for a wastewater tunnel in September 2016. Although the project seems to be a small one, it is one more important step into a cleaner environment for the bursting at the seams Metropol City Istanbul.

Herrenknecht: No Run of the Mill Mission on the Florida Coast near Miami

In February 2016 construction company Bessac completed work on a protection tunnel in extremely difficult geology in South Florida. In just ten months and using a customized machine designed especially for the mission, a "Herrenknecht Combined Shield" (HCS, diameter 3.13 m), 1,613 meters were tunnelled adhering to the highest safety standards. A new sewer line was installed in the finished tunnel – after half a century in use the old pipe was simply worn out.

National Geographic showcases Abu Dhabi's Tunnel Enhancement STEP Project

The construction of the Abu Dhabi Deep Sewer Tunnel, one of the deepest gravity tunnels in the world, as explored in a documentary by National Geographic. Shown on September 5th at a premier event in the auditorium of the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, "Megastructures: Abu Dhabi Super Tunnel" describes in detail the Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP), which was completed in 2014.

The Amaroo and Lockerbie Main Sewer Project, currently being constructed by Yarra Valley Water, involves building of critical sewerage infrastructure to service proposed developments between Craigieburn and Wallan in Melbourne’s Northern Growth Corridor in Victoria, Australia. The proposed developments are expected to accommodate some 260,000 people and provide over 83,000 jobs once completed.

BMB supports super Sewer clean up

Braving downpours and muddy conditions, team members from the BMB JV (BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty) joined local residents, their colleagues from Tideway and volunteers from the charity Thames21 to literally get stuck in with a clean-up operation on the banks of the River Thames at Chiswick Eyot in West London last Friday (30 October). The event was organised by Thames21 which is running a citizen science project to improve understanding of what litter is in the River Thames and where it comes from.

Doha: Herrenknecht Tunnel Boring Machines provide a modern Drainage System

Photo: The breakthrough of the first machine M-1795 on July 23rd, 2015 was celebrated by all participants in the target shaft. The sister machine reached the target shaft with millimeter precision just 6 days later (Herrenknecht).

 

2 EPB Shields from Herrenknecht have provided first-class work during tunnel excavation of the large scale "Abu Hamour Southern Outfall Project". After just about 5 kilometers of tunnelling each, both high-tech machines broke through the target shaft precisely to the millimeter in quick succession of each other. The segmental lining method has proven successful in the smaller diameter range for the first time in Qatar. The newly created sewage tunnels are important to better protect the city and the inhabitants of Doha from floods after heavy rainfalls.

BMB jv appointed to deliver Thames Tideway Tunnel

BAM Nuttall Ltd, the UK civil engineering arm of Royal BAM Group nv, announces that it has been appointed to deliver the western section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, or ‘super sewer’, in joint venture with Morgan Sindall plc and Balfour Beatty Group Limited. The project is valued at £416 million to the joint venture.
