Brisbane Woman recognised for Climbing Heights of Resources Sector

A successful Everest climber, former Telstra Business Woman of the Year finalist, and 30-year resources sector veteran has been recognised by the sector for her outstanding achievements. Karen Alexander was presented the Exceptional Woman in Queensland Resources Award in Brisbane today by Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Grace Grace, Queensland Resources Council (QRC) President Rag Udd and Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ) Chair Maria Joyce before a state-wide audience of more than 900 people.

Anfang Dezember wurden die Firmen Bauer Umwelt GmbH, Bauer Water GmbH und Bauer Resources GmbH zu einer Firma zusammengefasst. „Das positive Wachstum unseres Umweltgeschäfts und die sich daraus ergebenden Anforderungen zeigen, dass die bisherige Aufstellung mit mehreren Firmen für die Zukunft nicht mehr passend war“, so Bauer Resources-Geschäftsführer Johann Mesch. „Durch das Zusammenführen der Bauer Resources GmbH, Bauer Umwelt GmbH und Bauer Water GmbH werden sich viele administrative Vereinfachungen bei der Abwicklung von Projekten ergeben, sodass wir nun mit gebündelter Kompetenz ein noch stärkerer Projektpartner sein werden.“

Bauer AG's nine-month Figures behind Expectations

  • Total Group revenues are down by 4.1 % to EUR 1,146.3 million;
  • EBIT improves by 4.4 % to EUR 38.0 million (previous year: EUR 36.4 million); Earnings after tax are EUR -4.0 million (previous year: EUR -2.7 million).
  • The order backlog remains stable at a high level of EUR 1,019.0 million
  • The full-year forecast has been corrected.

Vale performs Tests in new Pier of Ponta da Madeira

Vale performed one more testing stage of north berth of Pier IV, located in Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal (TMPM), in São Luís (MA). This time, the Capesize-type Cape Asia ship was loaded with 160 thousand tons of iron ore. The vessel moved on October 14th, bound for India. It is expected that, after completion of operational testing, scheduled for November, the north berth of Pier IV is able to start the operation. The work is part of S11D, the largest project in the history of Vale and which will enter commercial operation in January 2017.

Australia: Program Launch to help Women succeed in Resources Sector

A program to help women develop their careers in Queensland’s resources sector begins in Brisbane tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Women in Resources Mentoring Program will be officially launched tomorrow night by BHP Billiton (BHPB) Asset President Rag Udd and Leanne Enoch MP, Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business, who will be representing the Premier.

Queensland's Exploration Plan provides Certainty and clear Vision for Explorers

Queensland’s peak resources sector body has welcomed news of more consistency in the release of land for exploration by the Queensland Government. Minister for State Development and Natural Resources and Mines Dr Anthony Lynham released the first annual exploration program, which sets out 826 square kilometres of land to be made available through competitive tender for minerals, coal, and petroleum and gas exploration over the next 12 months.

Resources punching above their Weight

It comes as no surprise today that Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt has announced a $2.7 billion royalty write-down ahead of next week’s budget, despite record-level coal exports and a strong ramp in LNG exports.

While Queensland continues to set records in the volume of resource commodities we export, our commodity prices have remained stubbornly low. In retrospect, it is clear that the commodity price forecasts in last year’s budget and mid-year review were far too bullish.

Indigenous Jobs in Resources on the Rise

Despite 23,000 resources jobs lost in Queensland during the downturn, new data reports a 20 percent increase in the number of Indigenous employed in the sector last year. The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) survey on Indigenous participation also reported growth of Indigenous businesses within resources supply chains.
