Hecla Completes Acquisition of Mines Management, Inc.

Hecla Mining Company (NYSE:HL) announced that its acquisition of Mines Management, Inc. (Mines Management) is complete. The acquisition includes the Montanore Project, a large undeveloped silver and gold project in Montana for which the final Environmental Impact Statement and Records of Decision were issued earlier this year. Montanore will remain owned by Mines Management, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Hecla.

Canada’s newest Diamond Mine to provide CAN$6.7 Billion Boost to Economy

Gahcho Kué, the world’s largest new diamond mine under construction, will provide a C$6.7 billion boost to the Canadian economy according to a report published today by EY for The De Beers Group of Companies.

The new mine, located in the Northwest Territories (NWT), is a joint venture between De Beers Canada (51 per cent) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49 per cent). Set to open officially later this month, it is expected to produce approximately 54 million carats of rough diamonds over its lifetime, reinforcing Canada’s position as the world’s third largest diamond producer by value.

The commissioning of Legacy is underway. To particularly appreciate this exceptionally important step for the project, yesterday – during a visit to the site by the Supervisory Board and Board of Executive Directors – Dr. Ralf Bethke, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, and Norbert Steiner, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, together with Dr. Ulrich Lamp, President and CEO of K+S Potash Canada, symbolically pressed the start button.

Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine in Canada begins Ramp-up to Production

The De Beers Group of Companies (51 per cent) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49 per cent) announced that the Gahcho Kué process plant has been commissioned, and that ore from the mine is now being fed to the process plant to signal the formal ramp-up of diamond production. The project remains on track to reach full commercial operation in the first quarter of 2017.
