IWiM successfully delivers Fourth Consecutive International Women in Resources Mentoring Programme (IWRMP)

International Women in Mining (IWiM) is proud to announce the success of its 2021 International Women in Resources Mentoring Programme (IWRMP). The virtual closing ceremony was held on 5 October 2021 and was attended by over 130 participants worldwide. These included mentees, mentors and representatives of sponsor organisations who used the occasion to celebrate the positive impact that the programme has had on their careers and organisations.

New Prevention against Concrete Spalling on Segments in Tunnels

As a result the contact area between the segment has to be increased as much as possible, which will lead in turn reducing the distance for the gasket to the edge of the segment.

Government applauded for Engineering Futures

A new program to encourage people into engineering careers has been welcomed by the Queensland Resources Council (QRC).

QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the employment-based, pre-apprenticeship pathway is a great initiative by the Queensland Government at a time when our sector is experiencing skills shortages.

“Skills shortages are the number one concern of our member CEOs, according to a recent QRC report and engineering is one of those critical shortage areas,” Mr Macfarlane said. “The ‘Pre-Apprenticeship Support’ program is also designed to increase the completion rate of apprenticeships. I applaud the Premier on the initiative, which includes a new Certificate I in Engineering to help people transition into an apprenticeship.'

The two-year $25 million Pre-Apprenticeship Support program aims to support people looking to start a trade career or want to advance in their current trade.

“With the halt on skilled migration because of Covid-19 restrictions, we are also experiencing a shortage of trades people, so we really welcome programs that encourage people to take up trade careers.' Mr Macfarlane said the program complements the efforts of QRC’s education arm, the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA), who are on a mission to encourage young people into professional and trade careers, with a particular emphasis on Indigenous and female participation.

“Our sector has kept the Queensland economy afloat during Covid and will also lead us through the post-Covid recovery, so attracting and retaining a skilled workforce is vital. Despite the uncertainty and upheaval in 2020, the resources sector remained the largest source of Queensland’s merchandise exports. Over the 12 months to July 2021, resources exports made up $46 billion of the state’s total merchandise exports of $60 billion.”

Akobo Minerals signs Contract with Midroc for a second core-drilling Rig – significantly expanding Production Capacity

Bauer Spezialtiefbau involved in Construction of the LVR Building in Cologne-Deutz in Germany

After demolition of the existing building, a new administration building will be constructed on Otto square in Cologne’s Deutz district to house the central administration of the “Landschaftsverband Rheinland” association (LVR) on a total area of 7,357 m². Bauer Spezialtiefbau GmbH was engaged by the LVR with construction of the excavation pit.

Endomines AB reports Appointment of interim CEO

Endomines AB started the recruitment for a permanent CEO in the summer 2021 after Marcus Ahlström, Interim CEO and CFO of the company had informed the Board that he will be stepping down in October.

The recruitment process has proceeded very well and as planned. The company anticipates being able to appoint the new permanent CEO in the beginning of 2022.

Boliden: Environmental Permit for expanded Production in Garpenberg granted

Boliden has been granted an environmental permit for an increase in the annual production rate in Garpenberg. As a result of the decision, bottleneck investments can be initiated with the aim of increasing production to 3.3 Mtons per year.
