Skanska to construct new Entrance to Pennsylvania Station in New York City, USA

Skanska has signed a contract with Vornado Realty Trust to construct an additional entrance to New York City’s historic Pennsylvania Station (Penn Station). This contract is worth USD 119 M, about SEK 1.1 billion, which will be included in US order bookings for the second quarter of 2019.

The new “East Entrance,” located on the corner of 33rd Street and Seventh Avenue, will feature a four-story, clear glass canopy that shelters new escalators, a staircase, and an elevator connecting passengers to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and subway corridors below. Skanska’s contract also includes street-level excavation to accommodate the new entrance. This entrance represents a significant step forward in modernizing Penn Station into a vibrant transportation hub.

Since 2017, Skanska has been working to complete a transformation of the James A. Farley Post Office Building into Moynihan Train Hall. In 2016, Skanska completed the expansion of Penn Station’s West End Concourse, which will connect to the new Moynihan Train Hall once construction is completed. Together, these two projects will easing Penn Station’s congestion and improving the passenger experience for its 650,000 daily commuters with brand-new facilities.

Construction is ongoing and will continue through 2020.

Vale informs on the decision by the Lower Public Treasury Court of Belo Horizonte (6ª Vara de Fazenda Pública e Autarquias de Belo Horizonte), on July 9th, 2019, within the scope of the lawsuits 5010709-36.2019.8.13.0024 and 5026408-67.2019.8.13.0024 proposed by the State of Minas Gerais and the lawsuits 5044954-73.2019.8.13.0024 and 5087481-40.2019.8.13.0024 proposed by the State Public Prosecutors of Minas Gerais, which declared Vale responsible for reparation of damages caused by the breach of the tailing dam in Córrego do Feijão, in extension and form to be subsequently defined.

Milan M4 Metro Line: TBM Arrival at Solari Station completes Excavation of one Tunnel on western End

A new milestone has been reached on the M4, the metro line being built in Milan by a consortium led to Salini Impregilo. The arrival of the first tunnel-boring machine (TBM) at the future site of Solari Station marks the end of the excavation work and laying of precast concrete segments in one of two parallel tunnels on the western end of the line.
