AIMS 2019 Conference fostered international exchange on “Mines of the Future” in Aachen

The Second International Conference “Mines of the Future” took place in Aachen in June 2019. Due to the great interest in the topic „Mines of the Future“, Professor Bernd Lottermoser, conference chair of the renowned AIMS conference series, deepened the theme.

Having attracted more than 180 participants from 29 countries, from 20 different universities and 74 companies the two-day conference was an extraordinary success. Representatives from industry and research presented the latest findings in the areas of science, technology and responsibility in mining in more than 55 technical lectures. The wide range of speakers and participants came from universities, government agencies, the mining industry and consulting firms. Furthermore, 10 exhibitors seized the opportunity to present their latest products and developments to an international audience.

Professor Lottermoser and his staff are delighted with the conference’s outcomes and already look forward to the next AIMS conference. AIMS 2020 will be focused on „Mineral resources for future generations“ and is expected to take place on 2-3 April 2020 in Aachen.

Skanska to construct new Entrance to Pennsylvania Station in New York City, USA

Skanska has signed a contract with Vornado Realty Trust to construct an additional entrance to New York City’s historic Pennsylvania Station (Penn Station). This contract is worth USD 119 M, about SEK 1.1 billion, which will be included in US order bookings for the second quarter of 2019.

Vale informs on the decision by the Lower Public Treasury Court of Belo Horizonte (6ª Vara de Fazenda Pública e Autarquias de Belo Horizonte), on July 9th, 2019, within the scope of the lawsuits 5010709-36.2019.8.13.0024 and 5026408-67.2019.8.13.0024 proposed by the State of Minas Gerais and the lawsuits 5044954-73.2019.8.13.0024 and 5087481-40.2019.8.13.0024 proposed by the State Public Prosecutors of Minas Gerais, which declared Vale responsible for reparation of damages caused by the breach of the tailing dam in Córrego do Feijão, in extension and form to be subsequently defined.

ASTM International’s committee on geosynthetics (D35) presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Kent P. von Maubeuge, director of corporate identity and corporate communication and senior product manager with Naue GmbH & Co. KG in Espelkamp, Germany. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards.

Milan M4 Metro Line: TBM Arrival at Solari Station completes Excavation of one Tunnel on western End

A new milestone has been reached on the M4, the metro line being built in Milan by a consortium led to Salini Impregilo. The arrival of the first tunnel-boring machine (TBM) at the future site of Solari Station marks the end of the excavation work and laying of precast concrete segments in one of two parallel tunnels on the western end of the line.
