GHH develops new MX-42 for Underground Hard Mining - First in his Class
Best of its kind: GHH developed the new MK-42 dump truck with this claim in mind. In fact, in some areas it is the first in its class.
The German manufacturer of heavy machinery for civil engineering, tunnelling and mining is considered a rock in the industry. Its roots go back to 1758.
The company separated from a former industrial conglomerate, which included giants such as MAN, Roland and MTU. It became part of the Schmidt Kranz Group, which also hosts companies such as MineMaster and Hazemag. Today, GHH is nothing less than a full-range supplier in the world of rock logistics: For almost everything that drives on wheels.
In other words, plenty of good DNA to build outstanding dump trucks. The new MK-42 is now proving its worth: up to 45,000 kg payload, 19-24 m3 dump volume, maximum drive power, great turning radius, large dumping angle and excellent ergonomics and safety.

Review: Bauer Maschinen Group at the Conexpo-CON/AGG
Las Vegas and Shows – these two go hand in hand. Even though a lot of things were different this year due to the corona virus, the Conexpo-CON/AGG still went ahead from 10–13 March. With an area of about 2.7 million m² and over 2,300 exhibitors, the Conexpo-CON/AGG once again was North America’s largest Construction Trade Show. Bauer Equipment America, Inc., the US subsidiary of Bauer Maschinen Group also took part and, sharing a tradeshow booth with Equipment Corporation of America (ECA), presented several new developments as well as tried and tested specialist foundation engineering technology.
In addition to drilling rigs of the BG series, equipment from the Bauer Maschinen subsidiaries RTG Rammtechnik GmbH and Klemm Bohrtechnik GmbH could also be seen. Equipment of the branch Bauer MAT Slurry Handling completed the portfolio. “Once again, we had many interesting conversations and numerous promising contacts were made”, Jochen Grundmann, Managing Director of Bauer Equipment America, Inc. sums up. “In addition, the Conexpo is always a great opportunity to meet up with long-standing customers, partners and friends, even if this year the most important focus was on the safety and health of all participants.” Extensive precautionary measures were put in place to protect the customers and employees, Jochen Grundmann continues.
Two Bauer drilling rigs were showcased at the Conexpo: The BG 15 H BT 50, on display with a Kelly set-up, generally excels on account of its fast and simple set-up. It can also be transported with a Kelly bar. In addition, the BG 15 H makes a clear statement in terms of functionality while simultaneously offering all the benefits to meet the challenges of small sites. Optimally tuned hydraulics translates into significant savings in terms of fuel consumption. A newly developed drilling tool of the Bauer BlueLine series was showcased at the BG 15 H for the first time: the BlueLine Drilling Bucket Type KBF-K with a diameter of 900 mm, a working length of 1,750 mm and a total length of 2,300 mm. This standardized, price-optimized drilling tool series which is available at short notice is perfectly suited for use in very dense sand and gravel, as well as in soft to medium hard rock.
The BG 23 H – the second drilling rig at the booth – gets top marks with its simple installation of mast extensions. This allows for a significant increase of drilling depths in the area of single-pass applications. Even in the extended SPEX (Single-Pass Extreme) equipment configuration, an active vertical trust force is available over the entire feed length through the crowd winch system for penetrating hard and compact soil strata. The BG 23 H was showcased with equipment for auger drilling. Despite its extremely compact size, the BG 23 H achieves a stupendous drilling depth of 25 m with an auger cleaner fitted. Optional assistance systems for drilling and concreting provide help and relief for the operator as well as a consistently high pile quality. The BG 23 H also trumps in terms of its versatility: Besides the single-pass application, it is also perfectly suited to meet giant drilling challenges with the Kelly method. Simple conversion for switching between methods forms the basis for rapid operational readiness on various construction sites. Thanks to the flexible mast design, it can also be used for Low Headroom applications.
The exhibited RG 19 T BS 65 RS from RTG Rammtechnik GmbH also received a lot of attention. “Visitors to the booth were particularly interested in the new adjustable auxiliary winch at the mast head, the remote control for all machine functions (which makes single-person operation possible), as well as the sheet pile assistant for quick and secure insertion of the sheet piles into the clamp of the vibrator,” reports Shaun Nelson, Sales Manager at Bauer Equipment America, Inc. The RG 19 T was showcased with an MR 145 V hydraulic vibrator.
For the first time, Klemm Bohrtechnik GmbH presented trade professionals with the newly developed KR 806-4GM anchor drilling rig with a 160 kW Volvo Penta motor. This model meets the growing US demand for mechanized manipulation of the drill string. The powerful drill for overburden drilling with the remote controlled MAG 6.1 magazine – which has been further developed in detail and patented – scores with more compact dimensions and lower weight compared to the established and widely available KR 807-7 series. The newly developed, robust kinematic component group additionally enables guiding of the heavy feed.
Also the KR 801-3GS was presented, currently the most compact, fully equipped drilling rig in the Klemm portfolio. Powered by a 117 kW Caterpillar motor C4.4 ACERT, the equipment boasts universally suitable kinematics for anchor drilling applications. The double-head system can be moved laterally from the drilling axis to fit rebar cages or anchors into the bore hole, for example. Low Headroom situations can be accommodated by a feed with divisible length. The drives of these exhibits correspond to US emissions standard EPA Tier 4final. Both models significantly reduce fuel consumption and noise levels with their integrated Energy Efficiency Package (EEP). They are also entirely radio remote-controlled.
For the first time, Bauer MAT Slurry Handling Systems presented the Container Mixing System CMS 45 in UL version at the Conexpo. As a special feature, the mixer, the water tank, the agitator container, and the control cabinet are permanently installed in a 20-foot container frame and connected via flexible hoses. This makes the equipment compact, space-saving, and easy to move, which saves time during assembly and dismantling. The centerpiece is a 1.8 m³ colloidal mixer with an eccentrically mounted mixing tool and an external circulation pipe for optimum dispersion of the slurry with simultaneous enhancement of the mixing capacity. A 15-inch touch display allows for the input of up to ten different formulations with ten sequences each and provides the operator with access to the current batch data at any time. The integrated booster pump automatically cleans the mixing tank and protects against unwanted deposits that are inevitable when using bentonite or other binding agents. The powerful batch mixing system is ideally suited to soil mixing applications, in the construction of diaphragm walls and in jet grouting techniques. It fulfills all prerequisites for keeping up with the performance of a Bauer drilling rig.
