Snowy 2.0: TBM Factory Test Celebration for Webuild's renewable Energy Project in Australia

The most sophisticated tunnel-boring machine (TBM) for the construction of Snowy 2.0, the biggest renewable energy project in Australia, has passed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), making it ready to be shipped to the site where Snowy Hydro Ltd and Webuild (formerly Salini Impregilo) will expand the Snowy Scheme’s network of hydro power stations in the Snowy Mountains and underpin the country’s transition to a low-carbon emissions future.

Mighty Breakthrough for Europe's biggest Tunnel Boring Machine in Italy

In Italy, the largest tunnel boring machine ever used in Europe successfully completed its drive in June. The supersize borer (Earth Pressure Balance Shield, diameter 15.87 m) made by Herrenknecht in Schwanau, Baden/Southern Germany, dug 7.5 km of highway tunnel through the Apennines. In cooperation with the customer, Herrenknecht designed a new system for the machine, to protect particularly the site crew from the expected methane gas deposits in the ground.

Virtual Reality Solution receives VDMA Startup Award at the Hannover Messe Digital Days

Six young companies beat more than 50 applicants in the 'Startup Speed Pitch'. VDMA Startup-Machine awards young companies with the greatest potential for the mechanical and plant engineering industry

The need for innovative start-up solutions is especially great in times of the corona pandemic: fast and creative solutions also help the mechanical engineering industry to save costs in development and at the same time to test new technologies. However, the consequences of Covid-19 also make it more difficult to establish contact with innovative young companies. With the 'Startup Speed Pitch' competition, the Hannover Messe created an exchange format at this year's Digital Days, in which promising tech start-ups made contact with more than 10,000 interested trade visitors from the global industry scene.

From machine data analysis and tactile sensor technologies in production to virtual reality in construction: six start-up companies with their transformative start-up solutions were able to prevail against more than fifty other applicants in this competition. The finalists, who were given the opportunity to present themselves on the digital stage, were BAM GmbH, Tacterion GmbH, QuizCo GmbH, CMC Engineers GmbH, talpasolutions GmbH and RSConnect GmbH. They competed against each other in a 3-minute pitch. The audience award - and thus a stand at the Hanover Fair 2021 - was won by the young company BAM GmbH. As a further highlight, the VDMA awarded a start-up prize to the young company with the greatest potential for mechanical engineering.

Technology solution for product development in times of Corona: CMC Engineers receives VDMA Startup Award

For the VDMA, participation in the start-up competition at the Digital Days was strategically important. Hartmut Rauen, deputy managing director of the VDMA, said 'Especially in the current corona pandemic it is important for us to be a beacon of innovation for our members. In these challenging times, we are working at full speed with our start-up machine to develop the innovative potential of start-ups for our industry'.

The VDMA Startup-Machine selected a young company as the prizewinner. The company addresses the current challenges facing the industry due to corona-related contact limitations and drives forward the industrial transformation in mechanical engineering with a promising technical solution. With CMC ViewR, the start-up CMC Engineers offers a virtual reality solution for the challenges of medium-sized mechanical and plant engineering companies. With this software, manufacturing companies can easily visualize 3D data in order to develop, plan and present products collaboratively and location-independently in virtual teams. Julian Hermle, Managing Director Technology of CMC Engineers, confirms that CMC Engineers has hit a nerve in mechanical engineering with their solution: 'As Industrial Engineers, we and the majority of our customers are at home in mechanical and plant engineering. Therefore we are very pleased to receive the VDMA Startup Award 2020'.

In addition to the recognition, CMC Engineers receives a 'VDMA Startup Hosting Package' and thus the chance to experience the full potential of the VDMA and its services from consulting to content to networking for one year.
