Webinar Series on environmentally friendly Mining – Experts share their Knowledge
Mining experts from TU Bergakademie Freiberg will be offering trilingual online seminars on responsible raw material mining and recultivation over the next two months. Interpreting is available in Russian, Ukrainian and German.
Partners in the vocational training project 'RUK' are the National Technical University 'Dniprowska politechnika', the Belarusian National Technical University and the State University of Mining of the Ural Region. Mining experts and students in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus are invited to join four online webinars, which will be held in November and December 2020.
The seminar series focuses on the topics of recultivation of former mines as well as on environmental protection and recycling management in the raw materials sector. Three of the seminars will be conducted under the respective leadership of the partners National Technical University 'Dniprowska politechnika', Belarusian National Technical University and State University of Mining and Metallurgy of the Ural region, the fourth and final seminar will be under the responsibility of TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Each of the four partners offers specific expertise of its institution and its region. There will be sufficient room to discuss basic principles, procedures and experiences and to stimulate cooperation in science, education and economy.
Russian experts attending a similar seminar on recultivation in 2019.The seminars are intended to be the starting point for an ongoing international cooperation to deal with these essential topics of a sustainable raw materials economy. Germany obtains many raw materials from the project's target countries and is concerned about fair supply chains so that the demand for raw materials is not met at the expense of the environment and the health of people in neighbouring countries. The seminars are aimed at experts, interested parties and students in the four countries. Simultaneous interpreting is available for Russian, Ukrainian and German. The recordings will also be made available to the partners afterwards to enable knowledge transfer.
Background
The project is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office in the program 'Expansion of Cooperation with Civil Society in the Eastern Partnership Countries and Russia'. 'Due to the strict environmental regulations in Germany and the European Union as well as the extensive experience in science and technology of mining, mine redevelopment and the restructuring of mining regions, TU Bergakademie Freiberg has gained special expertise for a responsible supply of mineral resources,' explains the project leader, Professor Carsten Drebenstedt. “I am eager to share this expertise with colleagues and other interested participants in the seminars.”
