Coffey's Senior Consultant awarded Peter Nicol Career Achievement Memorial Medal

Dr Harry Poulos awarded the Peter Nicol Russell Career Achievement Memorial Medal. Coffey’s senior consultant Professor Harry Poulos AM has been recognised for his remarkable contribution to the field of engineering.

Harry has been awarded the Peter Nicol Career Achievement Memorial Medal - the highest honour conferred by Engineers Australia.

'He has transformed our understanding of how structures interact with the ground and developed more reliable design approaches – an achievement more than worthy of Engineers Australia’s highest individual honour.”

In honouring Harry, Engineers Australia recognised his significant contribution to the field of engineering, citing “Professor Harry Poulos' work has underpinned many of the world's tallest buildings including the Burj Khalifa. He has transformed our understanding of how structures interact with the ground and developed more reliable design approaches – an achievement more than worthy of Engineers Australia’s highest individual honour.”

Harry has long been a contributor to the activities of the international geotechnical community, including the Australian Geomechanics Society, the international society of Soil mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Coffey CEO Urs Meyerhans commenting, “Professor Harry Poulos’ academic and consulting work has helped solve some of the most complex design issues, both in Australia and overseas. We congratulate Harry for this prestigious award”.

Harry has been recognised with various awards throughout his career, most recently in 2020 he was made an Honorary Life Member of the Australian Geomechanics Society and appointed as Ombudsman for the Deep Foundations Institute Journal.

The Peter Nicol Russell Career Achievement Memorial Medal is the most prestigious award conferred by Engineers Australia. It is presented annually to an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia who has made a notable contribution to the science and/or practice of engineering in Australia.

The award perpetuates the memory of Sir Peter Nicol Russell, a Sydney industrialist during the latter half of the 19th century, who made major donations to the cause of engineering in Australia.

Anglo American adds low Emission Fleet to global Shipping Operations

Anglo American announces the award of a ten-year charter contract for four LNG fuelled capesize+ vessels, introducing LNG into its chartered fleet for the first time. The new build LNG vessels offer significant environmental benefits, including a c.35% cut in CO2 emissions compared to standard marine fuel, while also using new technology to eliminate the release of unburnt methane, or so-called “methane slip”.

CSIRO and Partners take Aim at Ending Plastic Waste

CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, is developing a major research program to tackle plastic waste and reimagine the future of plastics.

The Plastics Mission, one of 12 missions in development by CSIRO is using science and technology, to address Australia’s plastics waste issue.

Each year, 90 billion tonnes of primary materials are extracted and used globally for plastics. Only 9 per cent is recycled, with economic, social, environmental and health impacts. In Australia, we generate an estimated 67 million tonnes of waste every year.
