Cimic’s UGL awarded more than $112m in Utilities Contractors


Cimic Group’s UGL has been awarded several contracts in the utilities sector, with a combined value of more than $112 million.

The contracts, which will be executed over a multi-year period, will start prior to the end of 2020 and include:

  • The design and construction of a 330kV switchyard at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains, NSW for TransGrid. The contract includes building 10 kilometres of 330kV transmission lines to connect the switchyard and the Snowy 2.0 pumped-hydro project cable yard.
  • The installation of a 52MW/78MWh Tesla battery for TransGrid at the Wallgrove Substation in Sydney’s West.
  • The design and construction of a 132kV/33kV substation to support the connection of a solar farm in Gunnedah, NSW, to TransGrid’s network in the state.
  • Design and construction work for Powerlink’s substations at Lilyvale and South Gladstone, Queensland.
  • Design and construction work in Victoria for United Energy, including the installation and replacement of feeder schemes at substations and the installation of safety mechanisms.
  • Cimic Group Chief Executive Officer Juan Santamaria said: “We’re proud to work with these clients to connect future renewable projects to the grid and supply new energy into the network. In doing so, we’ll also create job and procurement opportunities for regional communities.”

UGL Managing Director Doug Moss said: “These new contracts in the utilities sector highlight UGL’s power and renewables capability and expand on our well-established relationships with TransGrid, Powerlink and United Energy. We look forward to carrying out these contracts in a safe and reliable manner.”

Anglo American Platinum safely completes the ACP Phase a Rebuild

Anglo American Platinum has safely and successfully completed the rebuild of the Anglo Converter Plant (ACP) Phase A unit, with first converter matte ready to dispatch to the Base Metals Refinery for the next stage of processing. The ACP Phase A is now in ramp-up and on track to be operating at full capacity by the end of the year.

Webuild starts work ahead of Time on Verona-Padua High-Speed Railway

The Webuild Group has begun ahead of schedule the work for the construction of the Verona-Bivio di Vicenza section of the high-speed/high-capacity railway between Verona and Padua. The work, which Webuild is leading with a 83% stake in the IRICAV DUE consortium with Hitachi Rail STS at 17%, on the section is worth approximately €2.5 billion and belongs to a wider project for Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (Gruppo FS Italiane) worth more than €2.7 billion.
