Track Laying began on City & Southwest Project
The first track has been laid at Chatswood for Sydney Metro’s City & Southwest project, extending the driverless railway network from the north west, into the city and beyond.
Over coming months, 62 km of steel, weighing more than 4,000 t, will be used to lay 31 km of railway tracks in the twin tunnels between Chatswood and Sydenham.
The rail steel has been distributed through the metro tunnels using custom-designed excavators which can turn 360 degrees within the tunnels.
Sydney Metro’s line-wide contractor, Systems Connect, is delivering the track work as well as expanding the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill, constructing the new Sydney Metro Trains Facility – South at Marrickville and installing the power systems for the extension of the network.
