Analysing Cases of Damage and Risks for mechanised Tunnel Drives in hard Rock

The changing Salt Mining

The Südwestdeutsche Salzwerke AG mines and produces rock salt and evaporated salt. Conventional drill+blast was used to mine the salt for all of 120 years. Since 2006, continuous mining using Continuous Miners has taken over. Conventional methods are now only applied to cope with peaks when demand fluctuates.

The Potential for Development of Underwater Natural Gas Storage in Europe

Underground gas storage (UGS) facilites cannot be located in all European gas-consuming countries due to unsuitable geological conditions. Underwater gas storage in impermeable spheres could provide an alternative solution. This article explains the UGS situation in Europe and an unimplemented underwater projct idea in Russia.
