AusIMM’s Thought Leadership Series set to drive Change in the Era of Disruption
AusIMM’s free online Thought Leadership Series returns from July to September in 2022, with five on demand webinars exploring the role of resources professionals in an era of disruption.
In collaboration with PwC, Ausenco, CSIRO, Fortescue Metals Group, Metallurgical Systems and Weir, the Thought Leadership Series will once again bring together industry leaders and experts as they discuss critical topics that will shape the future of mining. The five webinars will cover Indigenous Participation, Global Mining Trends, Technology and Decarbonisation, Future Workforce and Critical Minerals.
AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin said “The resources sector is embracing new disruptive challenges, and our Thought Leadership Series will showcase what AusIMM does best – connect leaders in the field on important trends shaping our industry.”
The 2022 Series commences with a discussion on innovative Indigenous employment programs both inside and outside the mining sector, as well as ways the resources industry can advance First Nations professionals for the benefit of the sector and the community.
The next webinar features Debbie Smith, National Mining Leader at PWC, exploring the key issues most impacting mining companies in Australia and around the world.
The Series will then take a deep dive into the technology that is driving decarbonisation in the sector, with insights from John Vagenas FAusIMM, Founder and Managing Director, Metallurgical Systems, and Matt Pyle MAusIMM, Director, Technical Solutions, Ausenco.
A critical aspect of any discussion on the future of the sector is the pipeline of professionals. In webinar four, an expert panel including UNSW Faculty of Engineering Dean Steve Foster will discuss specific challenges such as negative industry perceptions and what younger generations are looking for in their careers.
Finally, the Series concludes with a panel discussion on how Australia can capitalise on its rich endowment of critical minerals, and make the most of its unique opportunity to build on this competitive advantage. The panel features Ken Brinsden, CEO and MD, Pilbara Minerals; Ryan Hilton, Director – West, Weir Minerals; Amanda Lacaze, CEO and MD, Lynas Rare Earths; and Dr Chris Vernon, Research Lead Green Minerals Technologies, CSIRO.
