Second Major Contract awarded for Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport
A $538.50 million contract on Greater Western Sydney’s metro rail project will support more jobs for the region, and has been awarded to CPB Contractors and United Infrastructure.
The contract will deliver approximately 10.4 kilometres of the new Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project. Work starts in coming months and at least 20 per cent of the workforce will be from Greater Western Sydney. The driverless 23-kilometre metro line will support 14,000 new jobs and will link St Marys to the centre of the new Aerotropolis via the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport. Six stations will be built along the alignment.
Under the contract, CPBUI will deliver approximately 10.4 kilometres of the new project, including elevated viaduct, earthworks for track formation, a rail bridge over the new M12 motorway, a rail bridge within the airport and associated works. These surface and civil alignment works will be built between Orchard Hills and the Airport Business Park Station.
The award of this contract follows the $1.8 billion contract to CPB Contractors and Ghella in December 2021 to deliver 9.8 kilometres of new twin metro rail tunnels. The Australian and NSW governments have the shared objective of having Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project operational when Western Sydney International airport opens for passenger services. The Stations, Systems, Trains, Operations and Maintenance (SSTOM) package is the third major contract package to be procured for the project, and is expected to be awarded at the end of 2022.
