Hatch to provide Expert Advisory Services for one of Canada’s largest climate-change Initiatives
TC Energy has selected Hatch to facilitate Independent Reservoir Safety Advisory Board for new pumped storage project
TC Energy has selected Hatch to provide reservoir safety expertise and advisory services for the development of the transformative 1,000 MW pumped storage project in Meaford, Ontario.
TC Energy is proposing a state-of-the-art pumped storage facility adjacent to Georgian Bay to provide flexible, clean, and renewable energy to Ontario’s electricity system, using the latest and best technologies. TC Energy has engaged Hatch to provide reservoir safety guidance through all stages of the project, facilitate an Independent Reservoir Safety Advisory Board, and support the project’s Community Liaison Committee in the community and public engagement process.
The role of the Independent Reservoir Safety Advisory Board will be to conduct periodic independent external reviews and provide expertise and recommendations in the design, construction, and operation of the reservoir through all phases of the project. The Independent Reservoir Safety Advisory Board will also be available to provide information and to answer questions from the community and public through the project’s Community Liaison Committee.
The Advisory Board will be led by Richard Donnelly, Hatch’s principal consultant for dams and waterpower, who has over forty years of experience in the design and construction of hydroelectric and pumped storage facilities, dams, and underground structures. He has carried out more than 300 dam safety assessments for individual dams and hydroelectric facilities and has assisted several international organizations to develop dam safety guidelines and regulations. Membership on the Advisory Board will be comprised of leading experts in reservoir construction and safe operation of hydroelectric facilities.
John Mikkelsen, Project Director, TC Energy says: “Continued public engagement on reservoir safety is essential to the development of this project. TC Energy is pleased to engage Hatch to provide independent expert advice and support to our existing Community Liaison Committee. The Hatch team continues to demonstrate an ability to refine the project design in response to input from our local stakeholders and members of the public.”
Hatch is proud to contribute to a project targeting zero emissions, while providing an environmentally responsible energy solution for Ontarians, and helping Canada meet its 2030 target of a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Norwegian Researchers lead a gigantic EU Project which will find Solutions for invisible Pollution
Frying pans with teflon coatings so your food does not burn. Detergents to keep your clothes and dishes clean. These are examples of how we, in our daily lives, come in to contact with invisible pollutants called PM substances. These pollutants end up going down the drain and they do not degrade and can travel long distances in the environment. They remain in water and are problematic for humans and the ecosystem. Now the EU is taking action.
