The Hong Kong government has awarded Fugro a contract to conduct a marine geotechnical and geophysical site characterisation for the development of artificial islands of about 1,000 hectares in its Central Waters.
The islands will be used for public housing and infrastructure, creating a quality and sustainable living, and working environment for Hong Kong.
Fugro’s professionalism in delivering quality Geo-data is well recognised by the industry and its unparalleled local expertise in performing nearshore geotechnical works in Hong Kong was a key factor in winning the contract, along with its strong delivery capability in providing comprehensive services and meeting tight schedules.
“We have recent success in quite a few large-scale site characterisation projects for civil infrastructure development,” says Mr William Fung, Service Line Director, Land Site Investigation & Monitoring, Fugro. “We will combine our global experience in marine geotechnical investigation with our local expertise in Hong Kong marine works to help the government meet the challenges of the site characterisation works for this large area of water.”

Without immediate and deep emissions reductions across all sectors, limiting global warming to 1.5 °C is beyond reach. However, there is increasing evidence of climate action, said scientists in the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report released.
