SIEMAG TECBERG, formerly Siemag M-TEC², headquartered in Haiger, Hesse, Germany, operates with two business units in the marketplace, i.e. the shaft hoisting and inclined hoisting technology for the raw material industry, the underground and tunnel climatisation, as well as lifting and lowering of heavy loads for the infrastructure industry.
Prime Technology based on a Mining Technology Pedigree
SIEMAG TECBERG GmbH, headquartered in Haiger (north of Frankfurt), Germany, operates with three business units in the marketplace, i.e. the shaft hoisting and inclined hoisting technology for the raw material industry, the underground and tunnel cooling, as well as lifting and lowering of heavy loads for the infrastructure industry.
Very often medium-sized companies in the machinery and plant construction industry are characterised by two properties: On the one hand, there is a high potential for innovation inspired by short information channels and efficient structures for decision-taking leading to product specialisation. On the other hand, such companies succeed in penetrating the worldwide market with their differentiated products and establishing their niche market position.
Historically, it can be said that SIEMAG TECBERG GmbH, Haiger, Germany, belongs to this category, a company which looks back on a long tradition of mining companies as a supplier offering a remarkable range of special solutions.
With the tradition and background within SIEMAG TECBERG, and following recent Management Buy out of the business unit founded in August 2007 from the Siemag Weiss Group, SIEMAG TECBERG continues the implementation of the business model successfully established, i.e. the “concentration on knowledgebased services”, now as an independent and owner-managed company.
Notable examples for special applications in the field of lifting and lowering heavy loads are the construction and the subsequent operation of the fully automatic shaft hoisting installation in relation with the development and tunnelling of the longest railway tunnel in the world, located in the Gotthard mountain, Switzerland, as well as the new ship-lifting plant Niederfinow, Brandenburg, Germany. The worldwide activities of the company, with a head count of about 400 employees, are supported by affiliates in South Africa, USA, People´s Republic of China, Australia and Switzerland as well as by a worldwide net of sales and service partners.
The current markets demand comprehensive problem-solutions, a task challenged and accepted by SIEMAG TECBERG. Its product and service portfolio starts with project consulting, continues with engineering, delivery, assembly and erection to commissioning of complete plants; it equally covers automation and long-term after sales service models and training schemes respectively in the after sales market. The complete service model provides clients with an outsourced plant operating model if desired.
Such solutions offered from one single source require a high degree of adaptation to individual conditions and problems; apart from the experiences gained during the long and successful history of the company, they require creative and innovative concepts to respond to the technical challenges in new project entures required in the current markets from the worldwide customers.
In addition to complete solutions for shaft hoisting up to depths of 3,000 m, typical refurbished or upgrade solutions provide the clients with options and variety in the product mix. Typically, brake systems, rope-changing installations, and mobile winches are offered in the niche markets. In the core mining business a focus is placed on hoisting machines with a payload of up to 65 t, hoisting speed up to 20 m/s, and motor powers in excess of 10 MW. Clearly, the new mine expansion projects require a mix of Koepe, Single Drum, Double Drum or Multi Rope Blair hoists provided in the product mix. For substitution or rationalisation purposes in deep open-cast mining projects, a conceptual truck-lift system has been designed which reduces hoisting cycles in comparison to the conventional transport by trucks. In the light of increasing energy prices, this system contributes to cut operating costs. Mine cooling is an increasingly important subject as shaft depths are going deeper and ever more complex. SIEMAG TECBERG has a niche product, known as the Pressure Exchange System (P.E.S.) which comprises the key components of state-of-the-art mine cooling. In contrast to other systems, P.E.S. distinguishes itself by high energetic efficiency and low cost which is achieved by using the energy from the water column in the shaft piping as a principle of operation. Moreover, this system is applied in large tunnel cooling projects where long tunnels and depth require cooling for personnel and operations.
