Snowy 2.0: TBM Factory Test Celebration for Webuild's renewable Energy Project in Australia

The most sophisticated tunnel-boring machine (TBM) for the construction of Snowy 2.0, the biggest renewable energy project in Australia, has passed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), making it ready to be shipped to the site where Snowy Hydro Ltd and Webuild (formerly Salini Impregilo) will expand the Snowy Scheme’s network of hydro power stations in the Snowy Mountains and underpin the country’s transition to a low-carbon emissions future.

Mighty Breakthrough for Europe's biggest Tunnel Boring Machine in Italy

 

In Italy, the largest tunnel boring machine ever used in Europe successfully completed its drive in June. The supersize borer (Earth Pressure Balance Shield, diameter 15.87 m) made by Herrenknecht in Schwanau, Baden/Southern Germany, dug 7.5 km of highway tunnel through the Apennines. In cooperation with the customer, Herrenknecht designed a new system for the machine, to protect particularly the site crew from the expected methane gas deposits in the ground.

Malaysian Contractor wins another Big at International Tunnelling

 

The Autonomous Tunnel Boring Machine (A-TBM), developed in-house by MMC Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn. Bhd, has won the Technical Product/Equipment Innovation of the Year award at the 2019 International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA) Tunnelling Awards night. The event was held on 18th November 2019 night at the 8th Annual Cutting-Edge Conference at Miami, Florida, where tunnelling experts and fraternities gathered to recognise and celebrate the best and latest in tunnelling achievements.

Successful Re-use for Herrenknecht TBM in The Hague

 

In The Hague, a refurbished tunnel boring machine (Mixshield, Ø 11,340 mm) has successfully excavated the twin tubes of the Victory Boogie Woogie Tunnel. After only 12 months, in January 2019 the final breakthrough took place near the city center of the Dutch coastal city. With a length of around 1,600 meters per tube, the tunnel section built using mechanized tunnelling technology is the centerpiece of Rotterdamsebaan, the largest infrastructure project in The Hague.
