Vale informs that its teams continue to monitor and report to authorities the movements in the primary and secondary portions of the northern slope of the Gongo Soco mine pit, in Barão de Cocais (MG), paralyzed since 2016. The northern slope continues to slide into the structure, a process that has been taking place gradually since last year, as reported to the market on May 16th, 2019.

Vale informed that it activated the Level 2 of the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM) of the Sul Inferior Dam, of the Gongo Soco Mine, in Barão of Cocais (MG). Due to the heavy rains in the region, there was erosion in the inner part of the structure's reservoir, which nonetheless remains stable.
Anglo American announced that it has received the next phase of its operating licence for its Minas-Rio tailings facility in Brazil, following the work to raise the dam as part of the Step 3 licence area of the mine. The regulatory authorities in Brazil granted the installation licence for this work in January 2018 and the construction work was completed in accordance with that licence in August 2019.

Vale informs that the National Mining Agency (Agência Nacional de Mineração - ANM) authorized the partial resumption of the dry processing operations at the Vargem Grande Complex. All operations of the Complex were suspended by ANM on February 20th, 2019, to prevent occasional triggers that could affect dam stability as a result of ongoing activities at the Complex.
Vale informs on the decision by the Lower Public Treasury Court of Belo Horizonte (6ª Vara de Fazenda Pública e Autarquias de Belo Horizonte), on July 9th, 2019, within the scope of the lawsuits 5010709-36.2019.8.13.0024 and 5026408-67.2019.8.13.0024 proposed by the State of Minas Gerais and the lawsuits 5044954-73.2019.8.13.0024 and 5087481-40.2019.8.13.0024 proposed by the State Public Prosecutors of Minas Gerais, which declared Vale responsible for reparation of damages caused by the breach of the tailing dam in Córrego do Feijão, in extension and form to be subsequently defined.

Vale has been undertaking all efforts to support the people affected in Brumadinho (Minas Gerais), since the early hours of the breach of Dam 1 at the Córrego do Feijão mine, on January 25. The humanitarian assistance includes psychological and social support and emergency medical care; accommodation in hotels, hostels and provisional housing; and supply of food, personal hygiene items and essentials, medicines, clothing and transportation.
