Launch of new Hydrogen Utilization Council in Kobe/Kansai Area in Japan

Mitsubishi Power, Ltd., a major wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, and Japanese various industry organizations and energy companies involved in hydrogen projects launched a new council named Kobe/Kansai Hydrogen Utilization Council with the goal of developing hydrogen utilization methods and establishing a hydrogen supply chain in the Kobe/Kansai area.


Ramboll achieves major Offshore Wind Contract in Japan

In Japan, growth on the offshore wind market is rapidly increasing, and with this new contract Ramboll will strengthen its position as market leader. Ramboll engineers will perform the detailed foundation design for a new offshore wind farm, which will be one of the largest in Japan.

Japan to diversify LNG Imports

According to recent reports, America is on track to become one of the biggest exporters of LNG, joining the ranks of Australia and Qatar in LNG shipping. Figures show that United States has approximately 70 million tons a year of LNG capacity coming online, in comparison to Australia’s 87 million and Qatar’s 82 million tons of LNG.

Japan, one of the biggest importers of LNG, recently imported its first liquefied shale gas cargo from the United States earlier this year. Sources state that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering increasing energy imports from the United States, meaning that Japan can start to lessen its dependence on the Middle East for its LNG requirements. 


Akastor and Mitsui create Joint Venture

Akastor ASA (OSE: AKA), an oil service investment company, announced that it has signed a Heads of Agreement with MITSUI & CO., LTD, a leading Japanese trading and investment company, and its Japanese partner, to create a joint venture with 50/50 ownership between AKOFS Offshore AS and Mitsui. The joint venture will acquire both the Skandi Santos hull from DOF Subsea Rederi AS and the Skandi Santos topside from AKOFS. The joint venture will subsequently enter into a lease agreement with AKOFS corresponding to the remaining contract duration between AKOFS and Petrobras.


Joy Global announces Agreement to be acquired by Komatsu in $3.7 billion all-cash Transaction

Joy Global Inc. (NYSE: JOY), a worldwide leader in high-productivity mining solutions, recently announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement under which Komatsu America Corp., a subsidiary of Komatsu Ltd. (TYO: 6301), will acquire Joy Global in a transaction valued at approximately $3.7 billion, including Joy Global’s outstanding indebtedness.

ABB and Hitachi to form strategic Power Grid Partnership for HVDC in Japan

ABB and Hitachi announced today an agreement to form a joint venture for high voltage direct current (HVDC) system solutions in Japan. The new entity, to be based in Tokyo, will be responsible for the design, engineering, supply and after-sales services related to the DC system of HVDC projects bringing ABB's latest technologies to the Japanese market where Hitachi will be the prime contractor.


Sierra Gorda’s Copper in the Japanese Smelters

The “Haruka” ship with around 6 thousand tonnes of copper concentrate has reached the port in Niihama. It has been the first shipment from the Sierra Gorda mine in Chile, which started copper production in July this year. The ship was officially welcomed on 14 December 2014, in the presence of KGHM, Sumitomo and Sierra Gorda representatives.
