Orica reports $602 Million Profit for 2013

Orica Limited (ASX: ORI) announced a statutory net profit after tax (NPAT) and after individually material items of $602 million for the full year ended 30 September 2013, up $199 million or 49% compared with the previous corresponding period (pcp) of $403 million. Before individually material items, NPAT was $602 million, down from $650 million in the previous financial year.

FLSmidth receives order for material handling stockyard system in Qatar

FLSmidth, in a consortium with Six Construct, has received an order from Qatar Primary Materials Co. (QPMC). The order value for FLSmidth is approximately EUR 140m (DKK 1bn) and covers supply of conveying and stacking systems for the Gabbro terminal expansion located in Mesaieed Industrial City, approximately 35 km south of Doha, the capital of Qatar.

Schlumberger: Third-Quarter 2013 Results

Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB) reported third-quarter 2013 revenue of $11.61 billion versus $11.18 billion in the second quarter of 2013, and $10.50 billion in the third quarter of 2012.

 

Income from continuing operations attributable to Schlumberger, excluding charges and credits, was $1.71 billion—an increase of 12% sequentially and an increase of 24% year-on-year.

Saudi Aramco: MOU Signed to Promote Expansion of Saudi Maritime Industry

Saudi Aramco signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) and Sembcorp Marine Ltd.

The three parties will prepare a detailed feasibility assessment aimed at the development of a world class maritime yard in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The intended maritime yard will provide engineering, manufacturing & repair services related to rigs, platforms, commercial vessels and offshore service vessels.

Metso completes the acquisition of the Chinese steel foundry

  • The acquisition improves Metso’s capabilities to supply wear parts to its mining and construction industry customers in China and other markets in Asia-Pacific

Metso has completed the acquisition of the steel foundry in Quzhou City, Zheijang Province some 400 km Southwest of Shanghai, announced in February 2013. The acquired assets of Quzhou Juxin Machinery Co., Ltd and Quzhou Chixin Machinery Co., Ltd and approximately 220 employees transfered to Metso as of 08 August. The value of the acquisition will not be disclosed.

Fortescue awards largest ever parcel of contracts to Traditional Owners

Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (ASX: FMG, Fortescue) has awarded more than $500 million worth of contracts to six Aboriginal joint ventures and Morris Corporation Pty Ltd, representing the largest ever package of contracts awarded to Aboriginal businesses.

The contracts cover a range of services, including catering, cleaning, waste management and camp administration across Fortescue’s mine, port and rail operations in the Pilbara.

Oldham Launches OLCT 80 Wireless System

Oldham Launches OLCT 80 Wireless SystemOldham (an Industrial Scientific company) announced the launch of the OLCT 80 Wireless field detector and transmitter for monitoring of oxygen and combustible, toxic and refrigerant gases in remote locations.


The new model reduces installation costs by eliminating cabling and wiring. Up to 49 of the devices, each of which has three built-in relays and a maximum line-of-sight range of three kilometers (1.86 miles), can be linked via a secure network to monitor large remote areas, including ATEX 1 zones, where wired systems would be difficult to install.

Because of the especially ecological and cost-efficient working method, the development of this new system is subsidized by the German Environment Ministry. An expert jury has now nominated Pipe Express® for the bauma Innovation Award 2013.
