On June 25, in Moscow, the State Corporation “ROSATOM” and NAC Kazatomprom JSC have signed Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of non-conventional (alternative) energy (solar and wind) and production of rare and rare-earth metals.

Memorandum stipulates development of bilateral cooperation between Russian Federation and Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of alternative energy and production of rare and rare-earth metals basing on the agreements reached in the course of Russian-Kazakh consultations at the level of Heads of the States. It is intended to set up the processing of rare and rare-earth metals, their compounds and high-added value products on the basis of rare and rare-earth metals using accumulated scientific and production potential and resources available at possession of the parties. Besides it is planned to implement joint projects in the field of solar and wind power.
The signed document provides for supplies to the consumers from Russia and Kazakhstan, to the third countries’ markets of feed stock and derived products on the basis of rare and rare-earth metals, equipment and its components, as well as exchange of experience and knowledge. Memorandum implementation involves carrying out of system analysis of competency having by the parties, production capacity and technologies as well as project potential source of financing. For the purpose of efficient project management Russia and Kazakhstan will consider the possibility of establishing joint ventures. In addition, within the frame of the existing Russian-Kazakhstan working group for cooperation in the sphere of nuclear power the expert group will be established to develop specific trends and cooperation projects.
