Boliden and Luleå University of Technology are today entering in to a long-term strategic collaboration agreement. The new agreement means that collaboration will be enhanced in terms of competence provision and competence development, as well as research and innovation towards leading positions within automation and resource utilization.
Metso Outotec and Boliden have signed an extension of their service contract for Boliden’s Aitik copper mine in Gällivare, Northern Sweden.
Revenues for the second quarter were SEK 13,391 m (12,747), with an operating profit, excluding revaluation of process inventory, of SEK 1,634 m (1,631). Free cash flow amounted to SEK 1,174 m (789).

During last night a fire occurred in the building for primary crushing in Boliden´s mine Kevitsa, located in Finnish Lappland.
Boliden has signed an agreement with Agder Energi for fossil-free electricity supplies in Sweden and Finland. The agreement covers a total electricity supply of 1,000 GWh per year and runs for 15 years from 2022.

Peter Bergman has been appointed as General Manager for The Boliden Area. For the last two years, Peter has been General Manager in Kevitsa and before that he worked as Mine Manager in Kankberg, Maurliden and acting General Manager at Aitik.
Boliden has decided to invest SEK 300 m with the aim of expanding electrified transportation in Aitik and implementing the corresponding technology in Kevitsa. Investments will be made mainly during 2020-2021.
Daniel Peltonen has been appointed new President Boliden Smelters. He will assume the role during December 2019 and will be part of Boliden's Group Management.
Kerstin Konradsson, President Boliden Smelters, will leave Boliden in July 2019. Kerstin Konradsson has been responsible for the business area and member of Boliden's Group Management since 2012.
Vattenfall AB and Boliden AB have signed a partnership agreement relating to technical development in the field of the electrification of mines and smelters, the circular economy and a fossil-free future. The agreement, which covers a four-year period, also includes battery solutions with a view to supporting the electricity grid and optimising electricity consumption.
Successful exploration work at Tara continued in 2018, with no other major contributions to report. Exploration drifts are under development at Tara and Kristineberg in order to establish improved locations for drill towards the new mineralisations. Garpenberg, Aitik and Kevitsa have Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves sufficient to secure production for many years to come.
Boliden has decided to invest in increased capacity at the Rönnskär copper smelter. A total of MSEK 350 will be invested. The commissioning of the new production capacity is expected to take place in the beginning of 2021.
Antti Petter Kontiainen has been appointed as General Manager for Boliden Kokkola. He will take up the position on the 1st of January 2019. He replaces Jarmo Herronen who will take up a new position within Boliden.
Boliden has agreed with Komatsu to purchase 17 new haul trucks to the Kevitsa mine and 9 new haul trucks to the Aitik mine at a total price of SEK 900 m. The investment will support expanding operations, insourcing of transports and a partial replacement of the existing truck fleet.
Boliden has decided to invest SEK 750 m in a leaching plant at Rönnskär. The plant, expected to be operational at the end of 2020, aims to extract more metal from residual material. Simultaneously, the amount of waste for disposal in the deep repository at Rönnskär will be reduced.
Thomas Söderqvist, Director Corporate Responsibility and member of Group Management, has chosen to leave his current position in favour of part-time pension and a role as senior advisor within Boliden.
Stefan Romedahl has been appointed as the new President Business Area Mines and will be a member of Boliden’s Group management. Stefan will take up his new post in the autumn of 2018 and will thereby replace Mikael Staffas who will be President and CEO from 1 June 2018.
