First animated Film about the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel Factory released

The world's longest road and rail tunnel will require a factory that, in terms of its size, is set to be a record-breaker. The Fehmarnbelt immersed tunnel between Rødbyhavn in Denmark and Puttgarden in Germany will be 18 km long and built from 79 concrete elements and an additional 10 special elements equipped with lower basements for maintenance. Each tunnel element will weigh more than 70,000 tonnes. Each element will be about 217 m long and about 40 m wide.

Femern A/S signs Contracts with Engineering Consultants

Femern A/S has today signed contracts with Ramboll-Arup-TEC JV for the supply of client consultancy services in the technical area and with ÅF – Hansen & Henneberg for the supply of in-house consultancy services, also in the technical area. The contracts cover consultancy services and technical support for the establishment of the fixed link across the Fehmarnbelt.

Femern AS and BBT SE: Two of Europe’s biggest mega Projects sign Agreement on mutual Cooperation

 

The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link between Denmark and Germany and the Brenner Base Tunnel between Austria and Italy are both record-breaking European mega projects that will play a vital role in the future European transport network. On Wednesday 21st September, representatives from the project companies, and members of the two regional development organisations, String and Brenner Corridor Platform, signed an agreement on mutual co-operation.

Hejre Platform: Dong Energy and Bayerngas Norge terminate the EPC Contract with Supplier Consortium

Dong Energy and Bayerngas no longer have confidence in the supplier consortium’s ability to deliver the platform and hold the consortium in material breach of its contractual obligations. On this basis, Dong Energy and Bayerngas Norge have given notice to terminate the EPC contract with the supplier consortium for cause with immediate effect. This means that the platform will not be completed and that the Hejre project in its current form will be stopped.

Sweco to prepare Station for new Metro Line in Copenhagen

Sweco has been commissioned by Danish Railways (DSB) to design and manage the construction and planning of the renovation of the Østerport train station in Copenhagen. The end result will be a modern junction linking existing rail lines with the city’s new City Ring underground metro line. The assignment is valued at approximately SEK 21 million.

Fehmarnbelt Tunnel Contractors appointed

On Friday, 4 March 2016, the Danish political parties behind the Fehmarnbelt link mandated Femern A/S to appoint the preferred bidders for the main tunnel contracts with the aim of entering conditional contracts no later than mid-May 2016.

Major Power Station Conversion taking Shape

With enough reinforced steel for one quarter of the Eiffel Tower and enough concrete for 57 highway bridges, the conversion of Skærbæk Power Station is well under way. Over the weekend, the power station’s neighbours had the chance to see the construction work up close. Heavy-duty steel elements have just been shipped by sea from India directly to Skærbæk Power Station’s own quay. They will be used to build the new wood chip boilers, which from 2017 will enable Skærbæk Power Station to use wood chips instead of gas.

Ramboll has won new Road Tunnel Project in Copenhagen

Ramboll has won the assignment of planning and design for a new road tunnel 'Nordhavnstunnelen' which will connect the tunnel on the Nordhavnsvej project (currently under construction) with Nordhavnen (the North Harbour in Copenhagen) and hereby improve the access for traffic in the area.

Experience from the Great Belt and Øresund will help make the Fehmarnbelt fixed Link safer

At around 18 kilometres in length, the Fehmarnbelt fixed link will be the world's longest immersed tunnel for rail and road traffic. Such a long tunnel under water requires special safety measures and is why appropriate systems and emergency service procedures are essential to the design of the whole tunnel. Safety has been incorporated into the project down to the minutest detail – from the very first drawings when the treaty on the fixed link was signed by Denmark and Germany in 2008 and up to the present day when tenders for the tunnel from nine consortia are being evaluated by the client, Femern A/S’ experts and consultants.
