TOMRA’s Technology and Partnership approach delivers record-breaking Diamond Recoveries for Lucara

Lucara Diamond Corporation owns the Karowe diamond mine in Botswana, which has been in production since 2012. The mine is recognised as one the foremost producers of very large, high-quality Type IIA diamonds in excess of 10.8 carats. Historic recoveries include the 1,109 carat Lesedi La Rona – the second-largest gem quality diamond ever found – and the 813 carat Constellation diamond. Lucara’s success at the Karowe mine continues, most recently with rare gem quality blue and pink diamonds recovered in September 2019.

Debswana announces Change of Managing Director

Debswana Diamond Company announced that Managing Director Mr Balisi Bonyongo will retire from the business with effect from 30 November 2018, following 26 years of dedicated service to the organisation. The Shareholders of Debswana have appointed Mr Albert Milton, currently General Manager of Jwaneng Mine, to take over as the Company’s Managing Director with effect from 1 December 2018. The Shareholders have requested Balisi to stay on for three months as a consultant to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine opens

Gahcho Kué, the world’s largest new diamond mine in the last 13 years, officially opened today. The mine, a joint venture with The De Beers Group of Companies (51%) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49%), is expected to produce approximately 54 million carats of rough diamonds from around 35 million tonnes of ore over its lifetime.

Canada’s newest Diamond Mine to provide CAN$6.7 Billion Boost to Economy

Gahcho Kué, the world’s largest new diamond mine under construction, will provide a C$6.7 billion boost to the Canadian economy according to a report published today by EY for The De Beers Group of Companies.

The new mine, located in the Northwest Territories (NWT), is a joint venture between De Beers Canada (51 per cent) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49 per cent). Set to open officially later this month, it is expected to produce approximately 54 million carats of rough diamonds over its lifetime, reinforcing Canada’s position as the world’s third largest diamond producer by value.

Gahcho Kué Diamond Mine in Canada begins Ramp-up to Production

The De Beers Group of Companies (51 per cent) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49 per cent) announced that the Gahcho Kué process plant has been commissioned, and that ore from the mine is now being fed to the process plant to signal the formal ramp-up of diamond production. The project remains on track to reach full commercial operation in the first quarter of 2017.

Diamond Producers Association announces Changes to Marketing Team

The Diamond Producers Association (DPA) has announced that Sally Morrison, Managing Director of Marketing, will leave the organisation in May to pursue another professional opportunity. To ensure continuity of momentum in the DPA’s US marketing activities, Michael Pace will join the organisation at the end of March as Interim Managing Director of Marketing, until a permanent replacement to Sally has been identified.

Anglo American: Q3 2015 Mining Production Report

  • Q3 2015 production increased by 2% (on a copper equivalent basis) compared to Q3 2014 and by 3% compared to Q2 2015.
  • Iron ore production from Kumba decreased by 12% to 11.4 million tonnes due to a temporary lack of sufficient exposed high quality ore for blending purposes at Sishen and adjustments to the mine plan and schedule as it transitions to the lower cost pit configuration.
  • Minas-Rio produced 2.9 million tonnes (wet basis) of iron ore, a 60% increase compared to Q2 2015, reflecting the ongoing ramp up of the operation.
  • Export metallurgical coal production increased by 8% to 5.5 million tonnes, driven by productivity improvements at Grasstree, which more than offset the loss of production from Peace River Coal being placed on care and maintenance in December 2014.

The Diamond Producers Association (“DPA”) has announced the appointments of Jean-Marc Lieberherr as Chairman and Stephen Lussier as Vice-chair, both with immediate effect. The DPA has also announced the appointment of Sally Morrison as Managing Director of Marketing, with effect from 19 October 2015.
