In November 2020, the Directorate of Mining confirmed that the appeals received in relation to the operating license for the Engebø Rutile and Garnet project did not provide any basis to revoke or change the decision, and informed that the matter had been forwarded to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries for final decision on the appeals.

Nordic Mining commissions Hatch and Sweco as Project Management Consultant for the Engebø Project

Nordic Mining has, through its wholly owned subsidiary Nordic Rutile AS, entered into Letters of Intent (“LOIs”) with leading engineering companies Hatch and Sweco as Project Management Consultant (“PMC”) for the Engebø Rutile and Garnet project (the “Project”). The PMC will be integrated in the owners’ team, reporting to the Engebø Project Director, and will be responsible for process design, and overall engineering coordination and integration of the selected partners for Engineering, Procurement and Construction.

Environmental Preparations for Engebø Operation in Norway started

Nordic Mining has started a monitoring program for migrating smolt (juvenile salmon) in adjacent rivers of the Førde Fjord. The program will cover two migration seasons, 2021 and 2022, and secure valuable information of smolt migration prior to production at Engebø. Advanced monitoring equipment has been installed at two representative locations in rivers surrounding the fjord.

LKAB: Tests for heavier Transports on the Ore Railway

Trafikverket (the Swedish Transport Administration), together with LKAB and Bane Nor, is conducting tests on the Swedish and Norwegian sections of the Ore Railway to enable heavier transports in future. Therefore, the axle load for ore cars is being increased from 30 tonnes to 31 tonnes.

Revised Discharge Permit granted for the Engebø Project in Norway

The Norwegian Environment Agency has granted the revised discharge permit for the Engebø project. The revised permit is in line with the application submitted in June 2020 for the substitution of chemicals, following process test work proving that the consumption of chemicals could be reduced by 99% compared with the chemicals in the permit of 2015.

Skanska has signed a contact with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration on building a motorway between Bærum and Hole municipality in Eastern Norway. The contract is worth about NOK 3 billion, about SEK 2.9 billion, will be included in the Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter 2020.

Skanska has signed a contract with The Agency for Water and Wastewater Services in Oslo Municipality, Norway, for preparatory work in the project New Water Supply Oslo. The contract is worth about NOK 2.88 billion, about SEK 2.8 billion, which will be included in the Nordic order bookings the third quarter 2020.

Fugro’s ROV Survey and Monitoring Services help install World’s longest Subsea Interconnector

Fugro has completed a contract for Nexans to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) survey and monitoring support services to lay the North Sea Link cable through a mountain and along a lakebed in Norway. National Grid NSN Link Ltd and Statnett SF are building an electricity interconnector between Kvilldal in Norway and Blyth in the UK which, on completion, will be the longest subsea interconnector in the world. Fugro’s innovative survey and monitoring solutions supported the installation of two cables through the mountain between Hylsfjorden and Lake Suldalsvatnet, and along the lakebed at a depth of 210 m.
