Dredging Technology – Underwater Excavation and Construction

The presence of water is usually considered a nuisance in construction, particularly when excavating removing water is common practice. In some cases however, water can be a very useful tool that may simplify things greatly.
With the “flooded excavation principle”, the construction site is flooded after the retaining walls have been installed (e.g. sheet pile). When the excavation is in layered soils facing artesian pressure and confining layers, the weight of the water compensates for the topsoil being removed and prevents failure of the base of the excavation. Particularly when it is difficult to install pump systems, or when reducing the artesian pressure is impossible or undesirable due to other factors, the flooded excavation may be the easiest option.

RMI Control System "On Demand Intelligence" delivers Savings for high Pressure Pumps

Photos: High pressure, high flow pumps require considerable energy input in order to deliver the demands of each application and a robust and reliable control logic system, known as Odin (On Demand Intelligence) that is capable of rapid response and close control of system pressure (Source: RMI)

High pressure, high flow pumps require considerable energy input in order to deliver the demands of each application, be that in the mining or the steel industry. Increasing energy prices continue to apply additional pressure to these industries and so the manufacturers of these systems are developing more efficient control systems such as Odin which has been designed and implemented by RMI Pressure Systems.

BBA: New bolt-on Pump Package for Mining and Offshore Applications

BBA Pumps introduces a new line of diesel driven bolt-on pump packages, to cater to the mining and offshore market niches where there is no need for a complete skid and/or canopy, we have developed a sub-frame assembly.

These units feature the BA or BA-C pump of your choice coupled to a diesel engine, including the control panel, and mounted on a high quality, galvanised sub-frame. The frames can be customised with lifting bales, protection bars etc. should these be required.

These auto prime pumps have a capacity of 100 m3/hour to a maximum of 1750 m3/hour and a head of up to a maximum of 250 mwc (25 bar).

The units can be bolted onto any object or structure, they offer true bolt-on pumping power. End-users only need to connect a fuel tank and the unit is operational. Using high efficiency pumps and state-of-the-art diesel engines, the units offer maximum performance at minimal cost, fully in-sync with BBA Pumps’ philosophy of “Lowest cost of ownership”.

For example the BA-C250H45 D610
Max. flow 1500 m3/hour max (6600 US GPM)
Max. pressure 180 mwc (594 ft.)
Pump speed 1800 rpm
Casing Ductile iron
Connections Discharge 8ʺ / Suction 16”
Impeller type  Closed impeller, stainless steel
Solids handling 60mm
Priming system BBA MP100 (100m3/hour) driven by e-motor 24V
Engine  Caterpillar C32 ACERT™
Engine power 709 bkW (974 bHp)
Weight (net) Approx. 6500 kg (14430 lb)
