A modern railway infrastructure is the basis for efficient rail transport that extends beyond international borders. At this year’s InnoTrans the Railway Infrastructure segment, which has expanded yet again, will feature around 500 international companies who will be exhibiting their railway technology innovations on a display floor covering a gross area of 30,000 square metres. Among the products being exhibited in the six halls are signalling and control systems, rail track technology and equipment for overhead lines. Furthermore, from 23 to 26 September numerous services such as the planning and monitoring of construction services will also be shown in Berlin.

For decades Voith has been supporting its customers with the overhaul of gear units and thus ensured safe rail vehicle operations. A particularly convenient solution for operators is the so-called gear unit exchange model. During a planned revision or an unscheduled repair, rail operators can have fully overhauled Voith gear units delivered in advance and install them straightaway. This service has now also been extended to Scharfenberg couplers.

The new ICE trainsets from Siemens for Deutsche Bahn (DB) have been approved for immediate deployment in Germany. The German Federal Railway Authority (EBA) approved the trains' operation – also in multiple-unit or so-called double-traction mode – on DB's rail network. Two trains were delivered in November for test purposes. Siemens has now supplied DB with two more ICE trains of the Velaro D type for deployment in Germany, with four additional trains to follow in the spring of 2014. "With the approval to operate these trains in Germany now granted, we've reached an important milestone in this project," said Jochen Eickholt, CEO of Siemens' Rail Systems Division. As agreed with DB, the remaining eight of the 16 ICE trains originally ordered are reserved for test runs in Belgium and France in preparation for implementing cross-border operation and obtaining the requisite authorizations.

Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) announced that its Quantm system has been chosen by the Russian High-Speed Rail Authority to investigate alternatives for two high-speed rail lines.

In the west tube between Erstfeld and Sedrun, work on Section 9 of the ballastless track is in progress as far as Kilometre 217'814.

On March 1, 2013, in Sedrun, the entire area of the multifunction station was handed over from ATG to the railway systems contractor. The entire multifunction station at tunnel level is therefore ready for installation of the railway systems.
