New Drains for Singapore

In Singapore, a Herrenknecht tunnel boring machine (EPB Shield, Ø 5,250 mm) excavated two large drains for the Stamford Diversion Canal. The challenge: winding bottlenecks and an inner-city drive in one of the most densely populated cities in the world.


Robbins Slurry TBM ramps up for Mumbai Metro Line 3


The first of two Slurry TBMs, a rebuilt 6.65 m (21.8 ft) diameter machine, passed its factory acceptance on September 4, 2017 in Singapore. The machine, fitted with a Robbins cutterhead and outer shields, is destined for the Mumbai Metro Line 3 under contract UGC03 for the Dogus-Soma JV (DSJV), and will begin excavation in late 2017. The factory acceptance for a second 6.65 m (21.8 ft) diameter Slurry TBM will be conducted by the end of 2017.


National University of Singapore and BASF embark on joint graphene research

The Graphene Research Centre (GRC) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Science and the world’s leading chemical company BASF have partnered to develop the use of graphene in organic electronic devices, such as organic light emitting diodes (OLED). The goal of this collaboration is to interface graphene films with organic electronic materials for the creation of more efficient and more flexible lighting devices.

Mechel OAO (NYSE: MTL) announces that its subsidiary Mechel Carbon (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. has signed a memorandum for supplies of coking coal with Baosteel Resources Int. Co. Ltd., Baosteel Group Corporation's wholly-owned subsidiary focusing on raw materials supply.
