Vattenfall AB and Boliden AB have signed a partnership agreement relating to technical development in the field of the electrification of mines and smelters, the circular economy and a fossil-free future. The agreement, which covers a four-year period, also includes battery solutions with a view to supporting the electricity grid and optimising electricity consumption.
Boliden has decided to invest in increased capacity at the Rönnskär copper smelter. A total of MSEK 350 will be invested. The commissioning of the new production capacity is expected to take place in the beginning of 2021.
Skellefteå District Court announced its ruling today in the dispute relating to Boliden’s deliveries to Arica, Chile in the mid-1980s.
Boliden has decided to expand the Kevitsa copper-nickel mine and Harjavalta copper-nickel smelter. In total, EUR 125 m will be invested until 2020.

Helene Seim has been appointed General Manager at Boliden’s Odda zinc smelter in Norway. Helene’s most recent position was Production Manager, and she has worked at Boliden Odda since 2003.
Boliden’s revenues totalled SEK 8,849 m (10,407) and the operating profit, excluding the revaluation of process inventory, was SEK 769 m (1,102). Higher production levels than in the previous year were, however, unable to compensate in full for lower metal prices.
Boliden Harjavalta continues the development of the copper – nickel business and invests in improved environmental performance and operational efficiency.
Glencore and the Queensland Government have finalised new environmental licensing conditions which allows the Mount Isa Mines Copper Smelter to operate to the end of 2022. As a result, Glencore announced that the Mount Isa Mines Copper Smelter and Townsville Copper Refinery will remain open beyond their respective planned closure dates of 2016 and 2017.

Boliden will launch an independent nickel smelting business, buying nickel concentrates from external suppliers and selling nickel matte to nickel refineries. The annual production is estimated to remain at 25,000 tonnes of nickel in matte.
Boliden has taken the decision to increase capacity at its Odda zinc smelter in Norway from 170,000 to 200,000 tonnes of zinc per annum.

Following a tank breakdown July 25, 2014, the production at the Boliden Kokkola zinc smelter is reduced due to repairs and inspections in the hot leaching facility, Boliden reported today.

Anglo American Platinum Limited yesterday reported a return to profitability with an operating profit of R2.0 billion for the 12 months to December 2013, up from last year’s loss of R6.33 billion. Revenue increased by 22% to R52.4billion, driven by higher sales volumes and the impact of the weakening Rand/USD exchange rate. Headline earnings increased to R1.5 billion from the loss of R1.5 billion incurred in 2012.
Kazakhmys PLC announces that it has appointed Non Ferrous China as a second principal contractor at the Group’s major copper growth project at Bozshakol. The additional resources will be targeted on the construction and commissioning of the processing plant.
