Ivanhoe's Platreef Project Management Changes

Anglo American Platinum Limited yesterday reported a return to profitability with an operating profit of R2.0 billion for the 12 months to December 2013, up from last year’s loss of R6.33 billion. Revenue increased by 22% to R52.4billion, driven by higher sales volumes and the impact of the weakening Rand/USD exchange rate. Headline earnings increased to R1.5 billion from the loss of R1.5 billion incurred in 2012.

AngloGold Ashanti employees return to work after two-year pay offer

AngloGold Ashanti confirms that it has made an offer to its unionised employees in South Africa, under the auspices of the gold industry’s collective bargaining framework, with the aim of reaching a two-year wage settlement.

The National Union of Mineworkers, Solidarity and UASA (United Association of South Africa) have indicated their members will accept the improved offer and employees, who had embarked on a strike from 3 September 2013 at the Vaal River Operations, have reported for work. The focus will be on a safe resumption of mining and ramp-up of production.

De Beers broadens empowerment scope in South Africa - Includes Diamond Trading Company South Africa

De Beers Consolidated Mines (DBCM) announced that it is continuing with the empowerment process the shareholders began in 2006, when Ponahalo Holdings acquired, in a broadly based empowerment (BEE) transaction, 26 per cent of DBCM.

The Company has reached an agreement with Ponahalo Holdings whereby DBCM’s offer for the Diamond Trading Company South Africa (DTC SA) has been accepted by The De Beers Group of Companies and that Ponahalo Holdings would therefore acquire 26 per cent of the DTC SA.
