Vattenfall and Boliden to work together for a fossil-free Future

Vattenfall AB and Boliden AB have signed a partnership agreement relating to technical development in the field of the electrification of mines and smelters, the circular economy and a fossil-free future. The agreement, which covers a four-year period, also includes battery solutions with a view to supporting the electricity grid and optimising electricity consumption.

It is the Rio Water Week, the world’s most important event on water issues, that for the first time will be held in Brazil.


Sustainable and reliable Hatch-designed Chaudière Dam in Canada officially opens

In 1998, Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) began the commissioning of physical investigative studies and engineering feasibility studies for the Big Chaudière Dam, one of the three dams located on the French River in Dokis, Ontario, Canada. The results from the studies, coupled with dam safety reviews performed in 2005 and 2011, led to the consensus that the dam needed to be replaced with a new structure immediately downstream of its existing location.


NDC Partnership, matching Climate Finance with Action

Fourty-two countries signed to the NDC Partnership, which was launched, on Tuesday November 15, at COP22 Moroccan Pavilion with the aim of enhancing cooperation among nations so that developing countries have more effective access to the technical knowledge and financial support necessary to deliver on their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Strabag building hydroelectric Power Plant in Bosnia-Herzegovina

A consortium consisting of Austrian construction and technology group Strabag and Croatian industrial company Končar has been awarded the contract to build the Vranduk power plant on the river Bosna on behalf of energy supply company JP Elektroprivreda BiH. Strabag AG, with a share of 63.4 %, is leading the consortium. The 20 MW hydropower plant will be completed for € 57 million within a period of 46 months.


Building Momentum in Copper

BHP Billiton President Copper, Daniel Malchuk, announced plans to lower copper unit costs to US$1.08 per pound in the 2017 financial year, supporting strong cash margins even at today’s prices. Over this period, the release of latent capacity across the portfolio will also help annual Group copper production grow to approximately 1.7 Mt at very low cost. This strong recovery will be supported by our differentiated water and power solutions in Chile which will provide us with a significant competitive advantage.
