Bossler Tunnel in Germany: »Käthchen« achieves Breakthrough

 

The site crew working with tunnel boring machine »Käthchen« (»Katie«) has completed the second tube of the Bossler tunnel. The breakthrough near Mühlhausen im Tale in Baden-Württemberg is another milestone in the construction of the Stuttgart-Wendlingen-Ulm railway line. The Bossler Tunnel is part of the Stuttgart-Ulm railway project and is expected to go into operation in 2022.
Construction of the two tubes was carried out differently than initially planned. The TBM (Ø 11,340 mm) was able to excavate almost the entire route. At up to 38 meters per day, the work progressed extremely quickly.

New Routes to the Sinai – final Breakthrough in gigantic Road Tunnels at the Suez Canal

On the Christmas weekend, Egyptian President H.E. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rang in a new era for the Sinai Peninsula: on Saturday, December 23, 2017, S-960 (Ø 13,020 mm), the third of four Herrenknecht Mixshields, completed tunnelling for the first of two new twin-tube road tunnels under the Suez Canal at Ismailia. The tunnels at Port Said and Ismailia, designed to link the Sinai Peninsula more closely to the Egyptian heartland in future, will open up new economic opportunities. Instead of spending up to 5 days in long car queues for the ferry, crossing the Suez Canal via the efficient tunnels will only take 10 minutes in future.

Final double Breakthrough at the Emscher Sewer in Germany

 

With the breakthrough of the last two tunnel boring machines into the target pit in Oberhausen-Biefang on June 12, 2017 the tunnel and pipe jacking work for the Emscher sewer has been completed. Over a period of 25 years numerous Herrenknecht tunnelling machines and a wide range of additional equipment were successfully used in the Europe-wide unique environmental and sewage project of Emschergenossenschaft.

Herrenknecht TBM constructs large Road Tunnel in Switzerland

 

The shell of the Belchen rehabilitation tunnel has been completed. Tunnelling ended successfully in Eptingen in the Swiss canton of Basel-Country on June 21, 2017, three months ahead of schedule.

The tunnel boring machine (TBM) (diameter 13.91 m) designed and manufactured specifically for this purpose at the Herrenknecht plant in Schwanau, Germany, excavated 3.2 km of tunnel through complex geology in only 16 months. The new structure is the prerequisite for rapid and economic rehabilitation of the two existing parallel road tunnel tubes.

Breakthrough of Lovsuns Sewer Tunnel TBM in Istanbul - Huge Plan for Wastewater Treatment in Turkey till 2023

 

The Turkish construction company Eferay Yapi Ticaret A.S. together with the Canadian-Chinese Lovsuns Tunneling Canada Ltd. celebrated in Istanbul the breakthrough of the 3.91 m diameter single shield EPB-TBM for a wastewater tunnel in September 2016. Although the project seems to be a small one, it is one more important step into a cleaner environment for the bursting at the seams Metropol City Istanbul.

40 Years passed since the Prague Subway’s first Tunnel under the Vltava River broke through

On October 18, 2016, exactly 40 years have passed since the first tunnel of the Prague subway system under the Vltava River broke through. Since it was not possible to perform any blasting work under the Vltava River or under the historical center of Prague, a prototype of the mechanical tunneling shield was used. The giant machine, which was the forerunner of today’s Adéla and Tonda machines, started from a giant cavern near the Mánes Bridge, reaching the Staroměstská Station on October 18, 1976.
