Vale implements two Sediment Control Membranes on the Paraopeba River

Two of the three membranes that will protect the water withdrawal system of the city of á de Minas, on the Paraopeba River, are already in operation. The second barrier was installed yesterday (3/2/19) and the first, on Saturday (2/2/19). The third will be installed today (4/2/19), weather permitting. Since yesterday, weather in the region has been challenging, with rain and wind reported.

Porr to modernise Railway Lines in industrial zone of Upper Silesia in Poland



Porr has been awarded the tender by PKP PLK S.A. to modernise a section of the "Metropolitan Railway Beltway" of the Upper Silesian industrial zone (Polish: Górnośląski Okręg Przemysłowy). The construction project is worth EUR 60m (PLN 256.6m) and is already the sixth railway construction project to be realised by Porr in South Poland. The total value of all six contracts concluded with the Polish railway infrastructure companies amounts to around EUR 350m overall. The project is set for completion within 40 months and will be realised as a Design & Build contract.

Investigation launched into Mongolian Iron Ore Mine financed by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development for Impacts on local Communities

Last week, the independent accountability mechanism of the EBRD announced it will investigate the EBRD-financed mine, operated by Altain Khuder in the Gobi-Altai region of Mongolia. The investigation comes in response to a complaint filed to the EBRD’s Project Complaint Mechanism (PCM) in December 2014 from herders affected by the project.

ABB’s SmartVentilation is a complete solution to the challenge of providing fresh air and venting toxic gases from subterranean mines. It also minimizes energy use by ventilating only those areas of a mine that require it. ABB estimates that this ability to work “on-demand” could reduce an operator’s electricity bill by up to half.
