Europe’s first Stage 4 CAT 311F Excavator starts Work

Construction and infrastructure business Morgan Sindall has taken receipt of the first Caterpillar 311F Euro Stage 4 Engine Excavator in Europe. The ubiquitous ‘digger’ is a staple feature of construction sites everywhere, but this one is different. It is a new generation of cleaner, more efficient machines that comply with the latest EU legislation to reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter emissions from diesel engines. This particular model reduces these NOx emissions by 90 per cent, particulate matter by 90 per cent and is up to 22 per cent more fuel efficient when compared with its Stage 3a predecessors.

Nathan Baker to join ICE as Director of Engineering Knowledge

ICE announced that Nathan Baker will be joining ICE as director of Engineering Knowledge on 3 November.

Nathan will report to Chris Gibson, managing director of Thomas Telford Ltd. and executive director of Knowledge.

Nathan joins ICE from the Energy and Utility Skills Group, where he was strategy and development director. In that role he created and led a business transformation strategy and re-invigorated skills product development, creating new skills solutions for clients. He identified and opened new markets in the UK and overseas, and grew the commercial income pipeline significantly.

ICE looks forward to welcoming Nathan to ICE Group, where he will lead the delivery of knowledge activities to support the strategic priorities of the institution.

Arup: ACE Platform one Step closer to Installation on Xcite’s Bentley Oil Field

The Bentley Oil Field project enters the next stage of engineering definition. Arup is working with Xcite Energy Resources Plc, Amec Group Ltd. and Aibel AS to optimise its ACE platform design for the Bentley Oil Field located in the UK Sector of the Northern North Sea. The project has now moved into the Pre-FEED (Preliminary Front End Engineering Design) stage following the successful completion of the conceptual design and assurance scopes of work.

Offshore Wind Farm: Fugro completes two Key Tasks on Gwynt y Môr

Fugro successfully completes the trenching and burial of inter-array cables for CT Offshore and provides unexploded ordnance (UXO) survey support at the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm. Once complete, RWE Innogy’s 160-turbine Gwynt y Môr, in the Irish Sea off the North Wales coast, will be the second largest offshore wind farm in the world.

Tata Steel signs Contracts to supply Pipes to Subsea 7

Tata Steel has signed a series of contracts with Subsea 7 - one of the world's leading contractors in engineering, construction and subsea services to the offshore industry - to supply undersea pipes to four separate North Sea projects. The four contracts, signed over the past year and worth an estimated £10 million in total, will see Tata Steel supply in excess of 55km of pipe weighing more than 9,000 tonnes.
