InnoTrans 2014 showcases innovative Railway Infrastructure Technology

A modern railway infrastructure is the basis for efficient rail transport that extends beyond international borders. At this year’s InnoTrans the Railway Infrastructure segment, which has expanded yet again, will feature around 500 international companies who will be exhibiting their railway technology innovations on a display floor covering a gross area of 30,000 square metres. Among the products being exhibited in the six halls are signalling and control systems, rail track technology and equipment for overhead lines. Furthermore, from 23 to 26 September numerous services such as the planning and monitoring of construction services will also be shown in Berlin.


Important Milestone for the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel: the Period for lodging Objections in Germany is nearing its End

This week sees the end of the period during which the general public and organisations in Germany can comment on, and raise objections to, the comprehensive application to the German plan approval authority for construction permission for the Fehmarnbelt tunnel between Rødby and Puttgarden. Femern A/S has prepared the application in collaboration with the Lübeck office of the State Company for Road Construction and Transport of Schleswig-Holstein (LBV Lübeck).


Sound Economy in the Fehmarnbelt Project

The economics of the Fehmarnbelt project are robust. It will be fully paid for by its users and will not burden the Danish taxpayers. The tunnel link between Rødby and Puttgarden will be financed through loans guaranteed by the Danish state, with those loans being re-paid by the users of the fixed link. The lifetime of the tunnel should be at least 120 years, but will be paid for after only 39 years. This note sets out the various conditions for the overall economics of the Fehmarnbelt project.


Gazprom: South Stream to be built in Austria in late 2016

Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom's Management Committee and Gerhard Roiss, Chief Executive Officer of OMV inked a Shareholders Agreement for the South Stream Austria joint project company. The document was signed in Vienna today during a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Republic of Austria.


Agreement for South Stream Construction in Serbia to be signed by late June

The Gazprom headquarters yesterday hosted a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Slavenko Terzic, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Russian Federation.

The meeting participants reviewed the bilateral cooperation in the gas sector, paying special attention to the progress with South Stream.


Leighton Group in NWRL Operations, Trains and Systems PPP

Europe’s largest infrastructure project, Crossrail, says that the UK needs to quickly address the gender gap in engineering if it hopes to meet the demand for skills to deliver future infrastructure projects. Just 8.5 per cent of engineers in the UK are women, the lowest representation of any European country. The UK is facing an unprecedented demand for engineering skills and needs to double the number of engineering graduates to 87,000 per year to meet the estimated 1 million job openings by 2020.

Hochtief expands Subway Network in Copenhagen

Hochtief together with Züblin signed a contract to expand the subway network in Copenhagen. The client is the public transportation company Metroselskabet I/S. The tunneling project is part of the City Circle Line in the Danish capital. Hochtief’s share in the order volume of approximately EUR 150 million is 40 percent.

Strategic Partnership between the State of Niger and AREVA

On May 26, 2014, in Niamey, Messrs.
